FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

Why else would they play five innings, under constant rain and freezing temperatures and still be upset that the umpire did not let them play the full seven innings, if not for the love of the game?
Just like on Sunday morning in Pickering when the temperature was near zero except we had rain on top of it last night as the Royals faced the Toronto Mets in Burlington, in what was supposed to be a double header.
The Royals started well taking a 3-1 lead after one inning but in the second inning the weather got to them and the Mets scored four runs as the Royals commited three errors in the inning. Despite the weather the Royals fought back in the bottom of the second and scored two runs to tie the game at five. The Mets would score two more runs before the game was called after five innings to the displeasure of the Royals coaching staff and players who wanted to keep playing. The Royals had loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning but pinch hitter Kyle Westwater hit a grounder to second base to end the inning.
Arsene Pinguelo started for the Royals and went four innings allowing seven runs, two of them earned on five singles, two walks and three ks. He was followed by Daniel Campos who pitched the final inning allowing only a walk.
On the offensive side SS Jordan Grant lead the way with a double and a single, two RBI and a run scored. DH Adam Vollick, chipped in with a single that scored 2 runs in the first inning. Logan Kaser had the other RBI when he walked with the bases loaded in the first inning. Other Royals hitting singles were C Edward Largy, 1B Justin Zealand and 2B Jeff Slasor.
The Royals will now travel to Windsor on Saturday to face the Windsor Sellects in a double header before returning home to face the same Windsor team at home on Sunday. Let us hope that the weather in Windsor is sunny and warm on Saturday!!!
