ROYALS TAKE 3 OUT OF 4 FROM WINDSOR SELLECTS 17U

The Royals travelled to Windsor on Saturday to play the 17U Windsor Sellects in what turned out to be an eventfull day of baseball. The Royals dominated the first game winning by a score of 14-1. Royals pitcher Cody Delorme pitched a complete game(six innings) allowing only one run on 5 hits, 6 Ks and 2 walks. The offense was lead by SS Jordan Grant and CF Dalton Pompey who each had 3 singles. First baseman, Jahmal Brooks and C Edward Largy each hit a double and Mirek Sharp, Justin Zealand and Kyle Westwater all had singles.

The second game was a totally different story. The game went 12 innings had a serious accident in the middle of it and when it was all over the Royals came out on top 4-3.

Daniel Campos started for the Royals and pitched ver well allowing 3 runs of which 2 were unearned on 2 hits, 3Ks and 2 walks over 6 innings. Mirek Sharp came in in the 7th inning and dominated the opposition over the next 6 innings allowing no runs on 2 hits, 6 Ks and 2 walks.

Short Stop Jordan Grant continued to carry a hot bat as he matched his first game out put with 3 singles and scored 2 of the Royals 4 runs. Dalton Pompey, not to be outdone hit a single and a double to go along with 2 RBIs. Brooks, Sharp, Largy, Karse, Mattarollo, Vollick and Del Pozo all hit singles.

The game was marked by an injury to Royals catcher Justin Zealand in the bottom of the 7th inning. Justin run into a post as he went full out to try and catch a foul ball he suffered a cut to his forehead that needed 8 stiches to close and broke his wrist. This play was typical Justin, he will do anything to win a game. The first thing he said after the collision was " did i make the catch?". Zealand hopes to be back playing in 4 to 6 weeks. The Royals will miss his determination and fearless attitude.
On Sunday play moved to Milcroft Park in Burlington. In the first game the Royals made it 3 straight over Windsor with a 8-0 victory as Phillip Hinton in his first outing of the year threw 6 innings of shut out ball on 3 hits, 7 Ks, 3 walks and 2 hit batters. Andrew Filler pitched a scoreless 7th inning with a strike out to end the game.
The Royals offense scored 8 runs on 8 hits and were lead by CF Dalton Pompey with 2 singles, 3 runs scored and one RBI. Jahmal Brooks continued his good hitting this year with another double and a single to go with his 2 RBIs. Also hitting doubles in this game were Jeff Slasor and Andrew Filler. Mirek Sharp and Logan Karse hit singles.
The second game of the day was marked by the Royals inability to get a hit with runners in scoring position. The Royals left the bases loaded in the 3rd and again in the 5th inning after leaving men at second and third in the first inning. In total 10 runners were left on the base pads by the Royals in this game and as a result the Windsor team took the game by a score of 4-1.
Arsene Pinguelo started the game for the Royals and pitched 5 1/3 strong innings allowing 3 runs, 2 of them earned on 5 hits, 4Ks and one walk. Andrew Filler came and pitched the final 1 2/3 allowing one run on a hit, 2 walks and a hit batter.
After stranding 9 runners in the first five innings, catcher Adam Vollick lead off the 6th inning for the Royals with a triple to right field and the come back appeared to be on the way as the Windsor pitcher was being hit hard but had escaped the previous inning when the Royals hit into a 1-6-3 double play with the bases loaded to get out of the inning. With Del Pozo at the plate trying to bring in the Royal's second run, Vollick attempted to steal home and was called out at home for the first out of the inning. Del Pozo flied out to right field.
The Royals once again got the lead off man on base in the 7th but failed to move him as the game ended with a 4-1 loss making their record for the year 3-4.
The next games will be on Tuesday night has they face the Ontario Blue Jays at Irland Park.

  1. What I love is that you can have gone to 10000 baseball games before and go to another game and see something you have never seen before.
