ROYALS WIN A ROLLER COASTER GAME

This afternoon the Royals played the St. Louis Sting in what turned out to be a real roller coaster game. The Royals started with a bang scoring five runs in the top of the first inning only to have the Sting tie it up in the bottom of the inning. It was clear we were not going to be witnessing a pitcher's duel. The St. Louis team added 3 runs in the second inning, 3 in the fourth and one more in the fifth to make the score 12-6 at the end of five innings. Due to a time limit the game would only go 6 innings and thus the Royals came to bat in the top of the sixth inning needing six runs to at least tie the game. Well, they came out swinging and scored nine runs on 9 hits making the score 15-12 going to the bottom of the sixth. With a 3 run lead and needing only 3 outs for the victory right handed pitcher Phil Hinton faced only four batters to save the game and give the Royals a two and two record at the Dekalb Invitational.
The winning pitcher was Andrew Filler who had relieved starting pitcher Cody Delorme in the fourth inning and allowed one run on 4 hits and 2 walks.
Every Royal hitter got at least one hit with Daniel Campos, Mitchell Mattarollo, Jordan Grant, Jahmal Brooks and Jonathan Del Pozo all hitting one single each. Kyle Westwater and Logan Kaser each had 2 singles. Andrew Filler and Jeff Slasor each had a single and a double. Justin Zealand went 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a double and drove in 3 runs.
The Royals will be arriving in Oakville on Sunday to prepare for their last four games of this season when they will play the London Badgers next weekend.

  1. It's great when the Royals win a game like this. Then all the pain is worth it.
