ROYALS BATS GO SILENT AT ROBIN ROBERTS STADIUM

This afternoon the Royals faced the 37-16 Springfield Bulldogs at the 5200 seat Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. Robin Roberts stadium was built in 1928 and has been the home of various minor league baseball teams over the years. Presently, it's the home of the Bulldogs and the Springfield Sliders who play in the prospect league. The stadium is named after Robin Roberts, a hall of fame pitcher who is considered Springfield's most accomplished ball player.
The honor of starting in this old stadium went to the youngest member of the team, right handed pitcher, Arsene Pinguelo.
Pinguelo went three innings against the much older Bulldogs allowing four earned runs on six hits, five walks and 2 strike outs. Ryan Fedrigo followed Pinguelo and pitched two innings allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks. Luke Miller, the 15 year old call up from the 16U team pitched the final inning allowing one earned run on a hit and 2 walks. The Bulldogs also scored five unearned runs giving them a total of eleven for the game.
The Royals managed only two singles hit by Andrew Filler and Mitchell Mattarollo. The Royals scored their only run in the fourth inning , when Edward Largy grounded to short stop scoring Mirek Sharp who had reached on a error by the Springfield College third baseman.
The 11-1 loss against the very strong Bulldogs was an improvement over yesterday's performance against a much weaker Carl Sandburg College when the Royals were beaten 21-5. The Bulldogs are one of top junior college teams along with Parkland C.C. and their players are much older than the Royals players and thus, much stronger. As an example, two of the three pichers that pitched today for the Royals , Pinguelo and Miller, along with Del Pozo who played some time at third and Dunigan who was in center field today, where five to six years younger than some players they faced today. A good sign for the Royals future!!
