ROYALS WIN THEIR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

The Royals won their first game of the fall season 5-2 over the Niagara Rebels at Milcroft Park in Burlington.
After falling behind 2-0 the Royals scored 3 runs in their half of the third inning to take the lead for good. Left fielder Mitchell Mattarllo lead off the inning with a double and later scored on a double by second baseman Mirek Sharp. Two batters later center fielder Dalton Pompey walked with the bases loaded to score Quinton Balla who got on base on an error by the Rebels third baseman. The Royals scored their third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by right fielder Jeff Park. In the fifth inning the Royals increased their lead to 4-2 when Edward Largy's sacrifice fly to center field scored Dalton Pompey who had hit his team leading third double and later moved to third on a wild pitch. The Royals made it 5-2 in the sixth inning when Jonathan Del Pozo walked with the bases loaded to score Andrew Filler who had lead off the inning with a walk.
Besides the three doubles, the Royals also got singles from designated hitter Dolan Dunigan and catcher Edward Largy. Largy also picked off two Rebels runners, one at first base and another at third.
The Niagara Rebels scored their first run off starting pitcher Arsene Pinguelo in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to right field. With the bases loaded and one out the fly ball was hit to right fielder Jeff Park who made the second out and promptly threw the ball to Quinton Balla at third base who tagged out the Rebels runner going to third, for the final out of the inning. Originally, the home umpire declared no run scored because the third out occurred before the runner crossed the plate, but after listening to arguments from the Rebels coach, reversed the call. The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the third inning off reliver Ryan Fedrigo but that would be all the scoring they would do for the night. After Fedrigo pitched two innings he was followed by Philip Hinton, Jeff Park, Daniel Campos, Cody Delorme and Chris Ruediger who each pitched one inning. The five pitchers allowed only 2 hits in the five innings of shout out ball. Philip Hinton continued to impress striking out all 3 batters he faced.
The Royals first victory of the season comes 2 days before their first annual golf tournament which will take place tomorrow at Flamborough Hills Golf & Country Club and should ensure that everyone will be in good spirits. The Royals next game will be next Tuesday at 7:30PM when they will face the Pro Teach team at Connorvale Park.
