In his first game since rejoining the Royals from Bethal College in Indiana, left handed pitcher Mike Vanderlaan, pitched a complete game as the Royals beat the Ontario Blue Jays 18U 6-5 . Vanderlaan allowed only two earned runs on five hits, seven Ks and five walks.
On the offensive side Kyle Westwater, Dalton Pompey, Logan Karse, Mirek Sharp and Jordan Grant lead the way. Westwater hit 3 singles with 3 RBIs. Pompey, who leaves today for the Domenican Republic where he will join the Canadian Junior Team, hit a single and a triple, walked twice and had an RBI to go along with his 2 runs scored. Karse singled twice and scored a run. Mirek Sharp and Jordan Grant both doubled and had an RBI each.
With seven games in five days the Royals run out of pitching in the second game and were dominated by their opponents has the Blue jays had 15 hits and the Royals only managed a double in the fourth inning by Jordan Grant and a single by Logan Karse in the fifth.
Daniel Campos started for the Royals and after an excellent first two innings run into trouble in the 3rd as the Jays scored six runs on six hits. Andrew Filler took over in the fourth and lasted 1 2/3 innings allowing six earned runs on six hits. Mitchell Mattarollo pitched the last 1 1/3 allowing the Jays final run.
The Royals play Team Ontario tonight at Milcroft Park. The 9 inning game will start at 7:30PM.
