The Royals were back to Pearson Park in Guelph on Sunday to face MacMaster University and Waterloo University as they continue their preparation for their USA fall tour that starts on the 23rd of the month.

In the first game of the day they faced MacMaster University in a very close game, which their older opponents won by a score of 9-8 after scoring 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Thomas Rincon started the Royals second game of the year and pitched 3 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks and 2 strike outs. Alex Mann followed Rincon and went 2 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks and one K. Daniel Campos closed out the game going 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball on 2 walks.

Just 30 minutes after playing a nail biter game against MacMaster, the Royals were back on the field to battle the University of Waterloo in their final game of the weekend. The Royals continued to show their never give up attitude by coming back from a six run deficit with 8 runs in their last at bat to win their first game of the year by a score of 13-12.

Luke Melymick got his first starting assignment as a Royal and pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and 4 strike outs. Melymick was followed by another new face, Brendan Ellingham who went 2 2/3 innings allowing six runs on 5 hits, 4 walks and 2 strike outs. The eight runs scored by the Royals in the bottom of the 5th inning gave Ellingham his first win of the season. Joe Browne came in to pitch the top of the sixth inning to earn the save. With a 2 run lead Browne allowed a run on 2 hits and 2 walks.

Daniel Campos, Justin Zealand and Matthew McCue lead the charge with 2 hits each. Zealand hit 2 doubles and scored a run; Campos hit a single and a double to go along with a run scored and one rbi; McCue had 2 singles with one rbi. Daryl Taube continued his hot hitting with another triple and a walk while scoring 2 runs. Logan Karse had a single and one rbi.

Trailing by six runs going to the bottom of the fifth inning, which due to a time limited would be their final at bat, the Royals showed that they have plenty of character this year by sending 15 men to the plate and scoring 8 runs on 7 hits to win the all important first game of the season.

  1. This encapsulates baseball perfectly. When you do it, its the greatest game in the world. When it happens against you, there is no worse feeling.
